Calipari stated. Second half we didnt guard.

One of the goals for the Winnipeg Jets in the early going of the season is to be
a .500 hockey team. With a 3-1 win in Carolina on Friday night they achieved
that. Now the goal is to chase down teams above you in the standings and get
into the top eight in the Eastern Conference. The game was the Jets league
leading 14th road game of the season, with a game in Boston yet to come Saturday
(TSN 1290) before playing 13 of 15 at home. Jets have to be a good road team
because after the home stand they will play 14 of 19 on the road. Chris Mason
started in goal after Ondrej Pavelec started a career high 13 in a row. It was
Masons first start since October 24 at home against the Rangers and his first
action since October 27th when he was injured in the game in Philadelphia. The
Jets took two penalties in the first 5 minutes of the game giving Mason more
work than he hoped early in the game. "Then it was the other way," said Mason.
"Second half of the first I didnt face many shots." The Jets outshot the
Hurricanes 10-2 in the second half of the first period. "Our penalty kill was
really solid," commented Coach Claude Noel in his postgame news conference. Jets
have now killed 30 of the last 32 shorthanded situations. Evander Kane opened
the scoring in the game. It was the tenth time the Jets have done that and the
third time this year that Kane has done it. It was his team leading ninth goal
of the season, and his fourth goal in five games. Andrew Ladd increased his
point streak to five games, one shy of his career high, with a goal in the
second, a goal that turned out to be the winner. "Its clear whose team this is,"
added Coach Noel. "He was good again tonight." Ladd is 4-3-7 in the five game
point streak, and 5-4-9 in his last eight games. Bryan Little sealed it with an
empty netter to extend his point streak to five games (4-2-6), and also giving
him six goals in his last eight games. Kyle Wellwood had his four game point
streak snapped. Jets were minus Ron Hainsey who played 23:34 in Washington. He
blocked a number of shots in that game with one perhaps doing some damage.
Tim Stapleton was back in the lineup, Jason Jaffrey out, while
Alexander Burmistrov after 7:56 in Washington, played on a line with Jim Slater
and Tanner Glass, playing very well in 17:04 of ice time. The Jets have now
picked up nine of 10 points over the last five games. Tomas Kaberle had a great
chance to tie it in the third, and despite the horn going to signal a goal, the
chance went off the side of the net. "We are all very happy for Mason," said
Coach Noel postgame. "We were relentless in our pursuit. Our skating, forecheck
and tracking was really good in the first. We got a little reckless in the
second but got away with it. We can skate but need to rely on our group to work
together, play for one another. Our checking has been really good the last four
or five games." Following a conference call hearing Zac Bogosian was cleared to
play and put in another solid effort in over 24 minutes of ice time, chipping in
with two assists. Jets are still minus Hainsey, Derek Meech, Randy Jones, Toby
Enstrom and Brett Festerling. Eric Staals struggles continues as one of the
leagues best players has only one goal in his last 18 games.

Blair and Splitter got tangled up and fell to the court in the fourth quarter of
San Antonios 93-89 victory in Dallas on Monday night. After the whistle blew,
signalling a foul on Blair, he kicked his former teammate with his left
foot.Lexington, KY ( - Andrew Harrison had 16 points to lead a
balanced Kentucky attack and the top-ranked Wildcats opened a season of sky-
high expectations with an 85-45 trouncing of Grand Canyon at Rupp Arena. With
three starters and several other key contributors returning from last seasons
national runner-up squad, plus a typical loaded class of incoming recruits, the
Wildcats entered 2014-15 as a heavy favorite to cut down the nets in
Indianapolis. They did little to temper the hype on Friday against an
overmatched Grand Canyon team in only its second year as a Division I program.
Its not going to be easy, said Harrison on the expectations. We have so much
talent on our team, but we have a long way to go and were still a young team.
Heralded freshman Trey Lyles put up 14 in just 17 minutes in his debut, while
Willie Cauley-Stein chipped in 12 points and four blocks in the rout. Dakari
Johnson added a double-double of 10 points and 13 rebounds for Kentucky (1-0),
which finished the night with an overwhelming 51-21 advantage on the glass.
Royce Woolridge paced the Antelopes (0-1) with 15 points and Daniel Alexander
had 10 in the loss. We were mismatched obviously with the size and talent that
they have, said Antelopes head coach and former NBA All-Star Dan Majerle. It is
a good stepping stone for us. Grand Canyon withstood seven straight points from
Harrison to begin the game to trail by just four, 10-6, at the first media
timmeout, but were held scoreless for the next five-plus minutes as Kentucky
started to assert itself.dddddddddddd The Wildcats strung together a 16-3 run,
with Lyles netting five points and Harrison the last five, to claim a 26-9
advantage with under nine minutes left in the first half, and the Antelopes
never got closer than 15 down the rest of the way. Twelve consecutive Kentucky
points, most of which came in the paint, made it a 38-11 lead late in the
opening period, and the margin was as high as 29 points until DeAndre Davis
layup got Grand Canyon within 46-13 at the break. The Antelopes shot just 25
percent over the first 20 minutes while committing 13 turnovers that the
Wildcats converted into 16 points. Grand Canyon played the Wildcats even for
much of the second half before Kentucky took over the final six minutes, closing
out the contest with a 19-4 surge. First half defensively we were pretty good.
Thats why we had the gap we had, Wildcats head coach John Calipari stated.
Second half we didnt guard. Game Notes The Antelopes went 15-15 in their
inaugural D-I season ... Grand Canyon hit 7-of-15 shots from 3-point range, with
Woolridge making all four of his tries from beyond the arc ... Kentucky was just
3-of-14 on 3-pointers, but outscored the Antelopes 58-16 in the paint ... The
Wildcats will host Buffalo on Sunday before taking on fifth-ranked Kansas in
Indianapolis on Tuesday. cheap
